Easy walking. Well waymarked. Mud in places.
The villages have a charming mix of houses.
Shearsby has a thatched yeoman’s house by the church. Pause to read the fascinating gravestone inscriptions (one to a priest who died in 1601 and one to William Weston, aged 36 who died in 1756 after the windmill sails caught him). The nearby Bath Hotel is a reminder that there was once a salt spring here, and it was hoped that it could become a prosperous medicinal spa.
Bruntingthorpe is an old Anglo Saxon settlement which later acquired its Danelaw name. It was enlarged when it became an airfield in World War II and a US airbase.
